Welcome to DPAS

Dansk Patologiselskab (Danish Pathology Society, DPAS) is the scientific society of surgical pathology, histopathology and cytopathology in Denmark with the main objective of advancing the development and research of human pathology. DPAS is advisory to the Danish National Board of Health in matters related to human pathology and appoints members to the national disease specific committees, including the multidisciplinary cancer groups, and is member of the Organization of Danish Medical Societies.  DPAS is represented in the advisory board of the European Society of Pathology and in its molecular pathology committee and is represented in the European Board of Pathology under the European Union of Medical Specialist, UEMS.

Medical doctors with board certification in pathology, medical doctors in trainee positions and other graduates, who through their work contributes to the objects of the society can be admitted to membership of the society. Persons not fulfilling these criteria but with documented interest in or otherwise association with pathology in a broader sence can be admitted to extraordinary memberships without voting rights and franchise and without admission to the annual general meeting. For membership contact the society’s secretary at danskpatologi@gmail.com or martin.nielsen@rsyd.dk

DPAS has four permanent commissions for informatics, quality, education and molecular pathology. Members for these commissions are elected at the annual general meeting. The pathologist trainees’ association in Denmark, FYPA, is associated to DPAS. For further information about FYPA, contact fypa@fypa.dk.

In Denmark, the specialist training in pathology is of 5 years duration, including an introductory 12 months period and a 48 months training period, which includes employment at two different pathology departments. The goals of both the introductory and the training period are detailed by a commission appointed by the DPAS board and approved by the Danish National Board of Health (for details consult www.sundhedsstyrelsen.dk). Specific educational programs are prepared by the regional educational committees consisting of representatives of the educational pathology departments, DPAS and the pathology trainees. The regional offices of medical postgraduate training advertise trainee positions (Region East, including the Copenhagen area, Zealand and Bornholm:www.laegeuddannelsen.dk; Region South, including Funen and southern Jutland:www.videreuddannelsen-syd.dk; Region North, including central and northern Jutland: www.videreuddannelsen-nord.dk).
